Hour long debate hosted in partnership with APP and featuring Greenpeace's John Sauven, Unilever's Hannah Hislop, CDP's Katie McCoy, and TFT's Scott Poynton

BusinessGreen will today host a debate exploring how companies can eliminate deforestation from their supply chains in an effort to tackle climate change and protect biodiversity and natural resources.

The hour long debate will take place today at 2.30pm BST, and will be hosted in association with Asia Pulp and Paper (APP), featuring panellists from Greenpeace, Unilever, CDP and The Forest Trust (TFT).

In recent months there has been growing evidence businesses and policy makers are stepping up efforts to tackle the problem. In particular, the New York Declaration on Forests last year saw hundreds of companies and organisations commit to ending deforestation by 2030 and last month's UN climate negotiations in Bonn, Germany, saw diplomats make a surprise breakthrough on the REDD+ policy that is designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation and natural forest degradation.

But many companies are still unsure of how best to deliver on zero deforestation commitments.

Our Twitter debate, Making zero deforestation a reality, will look at the practical steps companies can take to address these key issues.

BusinessGreen editor James Murray will chair the debate, asking questions of our virtual panel: APP's head of sustainability Aida Greenbury, Greenpeace UK executive director John Sauven, Unilever global advocacy manager Hannah Hislop, CDP's head of forests programme Katie McCoy and The Forest Trust Founder (TFT) founder Scott Poynton.

You can follow all our panellists in the debate by subscribing on Twitter here.

BusinessGreen readers can get involved by putting forward their ideas and proposals for tackling deforestation and posing questions during the debate using the hashtag #zerodeforestation.

Alternatively, if you are not on Twitter you can email [email protected] quoting the subject line Zero deforestation debate to put your questions to the panel.

Let us know how your business is addressing deforestation, the challenges you have identified in tackling deforestation, and any questions or suggestions you may have for those businesses and policymakers on the environmental frontline in the world's forests.
