The BRE Environmental Assesment Method (BREEAM) is a globally recognised standard for assessing the environmental performance of non-domestic buildings.
Originally developed in 1990, the standard covers a raft of green building indicators, including materials, energy and water use, land use, energy efficiency, pollution rates and transport options.
The building is then rated on a scale of: Pass, Good, Very Good, Excellent or Outstanding and awarded a certificate.
BREEAM is the most widely-used environmental building certification in the UK.
