The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) is a UN-backed scheme that aims to promote a standardised approach to corporate reporting on sustainability issues.
Its sustainability reporting guidelines - the most recent version of which are known as the G3 guidelines - provide guidance on how businesses should present sustainability reports and what metrics they should use.
GRI claims that adherence to the guidelines allows firms and investors to compare like with like when assessing businessess' environmental performance.
