Participants in the carbon market should from today find it easier to keep track of many of the key events influencing the price of carbon allowances, following the expansion of a new service designed to keep them abreast of the key conferences and deadlines that shape the market.

Analyst IDEAcarbon yesterday launched a new partner programme designed to extend the reach of its online Carbon Calendar, which details a wide range of forthcoming events that may influence the market for carbon allowances and offsets.

The online calendar, which was launched back in December 2007, will now be carried on the web sites of Thomson Reuters’ Carbon Market Community, the London Energy Brokers Association, reegle.info and Carbon Yatra.

It features information on regulatory and negotiating events, such as the timetable for UN climate negotiations; market events, such as contract expiry dates and auctions; and various carbon market conferences around the world.

Users will be able to access the information for nothing, while premium subscribers will also be able to access analysis of events, before and after they occur.

Shandi Modi, chief executive of IDEAcarbon, said the calendar would prove a "valuable resource to serious professional participants, observers, and policy makers in the climate change and emissions markets", providing them with early notice of those factors that are likely to influence the market.

In addition to the Carbon Calendar, partner organisations will also be able to distribute IDEAcarbon's pCER Index, which provides information on the price of the various different Certified Emission Reduction (CER) credits sold through the UN's carbon offsetting Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).
