NIMBY is an acronym that stands for the term "Not-in-my-backyard". It refers to the local opposition to developments that the majority of people support in principle, but object to when located in their neighbourhood.
Renewable energy projects, most notably in the form of wind farms, have become frequent victims of NIMBY protests, facing local opposition and objections to planning proposals despite repeated polls showing the majority of the public are in favour of switching to greener sources of energy.
