Festival organisers team up with UN Sustainable Development Goals Action Campaign to raise awareness of global goals

Revellers at this year's Primavera Sound festival in Barcelona will get a side order of sustainable development with their banging beats.

Festival organisers this week announced a new partnership with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Action Campaign to raise the profile of environmental and social action at this year's festival.

Under the partnership, the festival said it will ban single-use plastic cups in favour of reusable alternatives branded with the SDGs and history of the festival.

It also promised to deploy more initiatives to minimise the risk of sexual harassment and discrimination of women and girls, in a nod to SDG5, the goal for gender equality.

Meanwhile, a plastic bottle recycling bank, bicycle parks, and sustainable catering will address SDGs 12 and 13, which promote responsible consumption and climate action.

Organisers said the move will offer festivalgoers "a more sustainable and meaningful experience".

"Primavera Sound is a perfect platform to connect with young and creative people, who want to get active for the causes they care for, and make music festivals a meaningful experience for all," the UN SDG Action Campaign said.
