Confirmed speaker line-up includes Energy UK's Lawrence Slade, Richard Howard from Aurora Energy Research, and senior execs from Landsec, BT, and others

BusinessGreen has confirmed the next Towards Net Zero BusinessGreen Leaders Briefing will take place on the morning of Friday June 7 at Church House in Westminster, London, bringing together a host of expert speakers to explore the challenges and opportunities presented by the transition to a net zero energy system.

Building on the success of last month's Towards Net Zero Transport session, June's event will see industry leaders and senior corporate executives discuss how the business community can play an integral role in shaping and accelerating the development of a net zero emission energy sector.

You can now book your place at the half day conference using the Early Bird Rate, or reserve your complimentary place as a BusinessGreen Member.

The session, sponsored by Centrica, will feature a keynote address from Lawrence Slade, chief executive of trade body Energy UK. There will also be panel discussions on how to accelerate the net zero energy transition and how to plan for the energy system of 2030, 2040, and 2050, featuring executives from BT, Landsec, Aurora Energy Research, and the Corporate Leaders Group on Climate Change.

BusinessGreen will also shortly confirm two in-depth case study sessions on the challenge of decarbonising heat and how a leading business is pursuing a zero emission energy strategy.

"Few industries are more important to the net zero transition than the energy industry, but at the same time few industries are facing such high levels of disruption and uncertainty," said BusinessGreen editor-in-chief James Murray. "Businesses are finding they can engage with the energy sector in ways that would have been previously unthinkable and as such both customers and energy suppliers have a critical role to play in delivering a decarbonised energy system. Our latest briefing will provide invaluable insights into how businesses can best navigate this fast evolving landscape and seize the commercial and competitive opportunities it offers."

Last month's Towards Net Zero Transport Briefing saw Chris Stark, chief executive of the Committee on Climate Change, urge businesses to "embrace" the low carbon transition and prepare now for deep decarbonisation over the coming decades.

"It's a choice to act now, to invest in that new paradigm of carbon-neutral economic growth, or a choice to wait, and spend more," he said. "Very, very much more in adapting to the higher temperatures and the associated destructive climate impacts."

"It is an inescapable choice," he added. "There isn't a do nothing option."
