Object Matrix has introduced an archiving appliance based on the firm's MatrixStore software, providing what it claims is a cost-effective disk-based alternative to tape libraries.
The MatrixStore hardware consists of three network-attached storage nodes grouped into a cluster, with the MatrixStore software layered on top.
Because it offers on-demand access to archived assets, the system is particularly suited to the needs of the broadcast, design and creative industries, according to Object Matrix.
"As the creative industry begins to rely more on rich media content in projects, storage requirements also become more advanced and demanding," said Object Matrix sales and marketing director Nick Pearce.
"With file-based workflows becoming more common, the scalable nature of the MatrixStore makes it an ideal and cost-effective alternative to tape libraries. "
Each node is based on a quad-core Xeon processor with 4Gb memory, Raid controller and dual gigabit Ethernet ports.
Prices start at £24,485 for a configuration designed to protect 12TB of assets. The MatrixStore is available through distributor Channel Dynamics.
The MatrixStore software is also available separately for customers choosing to build their own archive systems using off-the-shelf storage hardware. The software integrates with other digital asset management applications, including Apple's Final Cut Server.
