BusinessGreen.com has today launched its Sustainable Business Lecture Series, giving readers the opportunity to hear some of the leading thinkers in the green business movement offer their views on the key environmental issues impacting UK Plc, as well as take part in the many debates shaping the emergence of the low-carbon economy.
The inaugural lecture - Delivering the low carbon economy – a case of evolution or revolution? - will be hosted in association with the Centre for Climate Change Economics and Policy and will take place on Wednesday 4 November at Leeds University.
The evening of short lectures from leading green business figures will address how the UK plans to meet its target of slashing emissions by 34 per cent by 2020 and what the associated opportunities, risks and challenges will mean for the business community.
In particular, it will address why many firms fail to embrace energy efficiency measures that can deliver clear cost benefits and the extent to which genuinely low-carbon business models are already being developed.
It will also explore what these new business models are likely to look like, how much resistance they are likely to face from entrenched competitors, and whether or not they can be developed while continuing to deliver economic growth and improvements in living standards.
Confirmed speakers include BusinessGreen.com editor James Murray; Andrew Gouldson, director of the Centre for Climate Change Economics and Policy; Frances Way of the Carbon Disclosure Project; and Dax Lovegrove, head of business and industry relations at WWF.
