Jones Lang LaSalle launches new green building consultancy service

Property services giant Jones Lang LaSalle has today launched a new green consultancy service designed to help firms interested in purchasing a property assess the building's environmental performance and risks.

The company said that the new Pre-Acquisition Sustainability Service (PASS) would build on existing due diligence processes and help firms identify the environmental risks and opportunities associated with a property.

For example, the new service will analyse the scale of flood risks faced by the building and its surrounding infrastructure, assess how well the property will cope with rising energy costs and increased environmental legislation, and report on the present occupier's willingness to work with landlords to improve environmental performance.

Alex Edds, associate director in Jones Lang LaSalle's Sustainability Services team, said that the combination of new legislation, increased operational costs, growing demands from occupiers and the possibility of securing higher rents for greener buildings meant property investors increasingly needed to understand the environmental performance of buildings across their portfolio.

As well as assessing a building's sustainability, the company said that the new service would also compare the building with the environmental performance of the wider property sector and include recommendations on how to improve the building in the event of a purchase being undertaken.

The new service is part of a wider push into the green consultancy space currently being undertaken by Jones Lang LaSalle, which saw the company recently outline plans to bolster its environmental services across Europe.
